Organizational Structure

The Western Pennsylvania Community for Psychoanalytic Therapies is committed to fostering an inclusive community that supports the education for and practice of psychoanalytic therapies in the Western Pennsylvania region.

The Community is a nonprofit organization with a sociocratic governance structure.  Sociocratic governance is defined as a method of governance that delegates policy-making to all levels of the organization and establishes equivalence between its members within their domain of responsibility.

The principles and methods of sociocratic governance develop in all members:

  • Strong leadership and clear delegation;

  • Self-governance, self-organization, and cooperation;

  • The ability to respectfully consider multiple perspectives on issues that are under discussion; and

  • Responsibility for continuing communal development.
